Michael Morpurgo Adaptations To Make Digital Debuts

The Barn Theatre in Cirencester has announced that it will be releasing two more digital productions this Spring, both of which are adaptations of works from the acclaimed children’s author Michael Morpurgo.

The first of these shows will be a performance of An Elephant in the Garden, which last toured the UK in 2019. The Barn Theatre are collaborating with Poonamallee Productions to bring this latest production to the digital stage, the first time in the show’s history that this has happened.

The second production is the return of Private Peaceful, which was last performed on stage in September 2020. Plans for a move to the West End last November were put on hold due to the tightening of COVID-19 restrictions.

In a statement, the Barn Theatre said that they “are thrilled to be partnering with the Belgrade Theatre, Exeter Northcott Theatre, and Lawrence Batley Theatre on these digital productions.”

Michael Morpurgo was the third Children’s Laureate from 2003 to 2005, a position awarded to “an eminent writer or illustrator of children’s books to celebrate outstanding achievement in their field.” A stage adaptation of War Horse, one of Morpurgo’s most famous works, proved to be a resounding success following its debut at the National Theatre in 2007.

An Elephant in the Garden will be available to view from 2 to 18 April, while Private Peaceful can be viewed from 19 April until 2 May. Tickets are available on the Barn Theatre’s website.
